The Greater San Fernando Valley Chamber of Commerce is partnering with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce on a national initiative to address opportunity inequalities. The chamber, based in Van Nuys, will join a national town hall event on June 25 to discuss actions that can be taken by government and the private sector, the organization said in a statement. Some avenues to pursue include education, employment, entrepreneurship and criminal justice reform. As part of the partnership, the chamber also plans to discuss such actions at more localized events. “As an industry and organization, we have not done enough to address inequality within the Valley business community,” Nancy Hoffman Vanyek, chief executive of the Greater San Fernando Valley Chamber, said in a statement. “We hope this is a great first step we can take to actively be part of the solution and not compound the problem.” “The moral case for greater diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace is indisputable, and there’s overwhelming evidence that greater diversity benefits the American economy, businesses, communities and employees,” added Suzanne Clark, president of the U.S. Chamber. “We are proud to partner with Greater San Fernando Valley Chamber on this initiative and help develop a robust plan of action.”
