The publisher of a group of newspapers serving the West San Fernando Valley is launching a new paper for the North Valley.
Called the North Valley News. it is a combined project of Kathleen Sterling, publisher of the Valley News Group. and Miri Rossitto, chief executive of Cowe Communications, a public relations firm in Woodland Hills.
The paper will follow the same format as Sterling’s other publications – the Warner Center News. the Valley Vantage, Calabasas Enterprise and Encino Enterprise. It will feature local business, entertainment, health and real estate news, along with people in the news and a calendar. The publication will serve the communities of Porter Ranch, Northridge, Granada Hills and Chatsworth.
“Miri and I have been long-time friends,” Sterling said in an interview. “We thought the combination of my newspaper experience and her communication and marketing experience was a perfect fit.”
The North Valley News will begin publishing on March 18 and be distributed in a print version at high-traffic points from Porter Ranch to Chatsworth and emailed in a digital version to 20,000 readers, Sterling said.
“The North Valley is an area that hasn’t had a paper in quite a long while. It is a vibrant, affluent community that needs a voice,” she added. “There is a lot of community involvement there with the chambers and neighborhood councils and homeowners groups. We wanted to bring the same local focus that we do in the West Valley to the North Valley.”
Even before the first issue has been printed, Sterling said the response from the community has been amazing.
“The chambers and the neighborhood councils are thrilled, and we are getting a great response from the community itself,” Sterling said.
