NewMark Merrill Cos., a Woodland Hills-based retail center owner, announced Wednesday the hiring of a new controller and the creation of a new director of finance position.
Steve Kundar will fill the position of controller, currently held by Jessica Ramirez, who has been promoted to the newly created position of director of finance.
Working out of the corporate headquarters, Kundar will oversee the day-to-day accounting operations for the company’s retail real estate portfolio across California, Colorado and Illinois, including managing the financial records for more than 85 properties.
Kundar most recently worked as controller for Sperber Landscape Cos. and has served as a senior vice president and controller of CIM Group as well as a portfolio and finance manager at Lowe Enterprises.
“Steve comes to us with a wealth of knowledge across so many different asset types and experience working with some big-time companies in our industry which will only help to grow our capabilities and efficiencies at NewMark Merrill,” Chief Executive Sandy Sigal said in a statement.
Ramirez began working with NewMark Merrill more than 25 years ago, starting in the accounting department before advancing to the position of controller, which she held for 10 years. In her new role, she will analyze financial information for new properties, existing properties and new investor opportunities. Â
“Jessica is a tremendous talent and team member for us here at NewMark Merrill, not only being one of longest standing employees who started with the formation of this company in 1997 but has always been and remains someone who brings her knowledge and passion to every project she is involved in,” Sigal’s statement said.
In the Valley region, NewMark Merrill’s portfolio includes West Hills Shopping Center, Topanga Willows, Janss Marketplace in Thousand Oaks and Gelson’s Village Calabasas.
