Interlink Electronics Inc. has opened its new materials science research and development lab in Camarillo. The Irvine manufacturer of human-machine interface devices, sensors and other technologies for the medical, automotive, consumer electronics and telecommunications industries said the lab will provide it with the physical resources needed to develop new products.
The opening of the lab coincides with the appointment of Gene Chen as vice president of engineering and advanced materials. He will direct Interlink’s team of engineers and scientists. Prior to joining Interlink, he was chief technology officer at force sensor company New Degree Technology in Shenzhen, China, where he led its R&D and product development teams.Housed within a 10,000-square-foot complex at 1267 Flynn Road in the Ventura County city, the new facility is outfitted with state-of-the-art printing, prototyping and testing equipment for advanced research into novel sensing materials, devices and applications, the company said in a release. It will also give a greater range of technological options wen developing custom solutions in-house and reducing time to market, the company added.
Steven Bronson, chief executive of Interlink, said the company has always been deeply rooted in innovation since its founding in 1985 to introduce force sensing resistor technology to the market and help commercialize printed electronics.
“Our new facility will give us much needed capability to expand our product offering, develop new sensor technology, carry out privately or government funded development projects and maintain Interlink’s leadership in the (human-machine interface) industry,” Bronson said in a statement.
Interlink had been headquartered in Camarillo until July of last year, when the corporate offices moved to Irvine. It returned to the Nasdaq as of March 25 after Bronson voluntarily delisted the company’s stock in January 2019.
