Conejo Valley Brewery Gets Top Honor

Judges for Casa Pacifica’s 8th annual Best in Fest Brewery competition chose their winners late last month, placing several Valley brews in the top slots.

Pedals and Pints Brewery was officially crowned the winner at the nonprofit’s annual Food and Brew Festival this month, which returned after a two-year hiatus.

Pedals and Pints, a Thousand Oaks establishment, took home the top prize for its Single Speed American Light Lager on Aug. 22. The brewery was officially crowned the Best in Fest winner at the nonprofit’s annual Food & Brew festival.

Breweries in the competition included Enegren Brewing Co. in Moorpark, Tarantula Hill Brewing Co. in Thousand Oaks and Twisted Oak Tavern in Agoura Hills, among others. Firestone Walker’s Mind Haze and Twisted Oak Tavern’s Take Her Home Belgian Tripel earned honorable mentions in the final awards.

The panel of judges included Kevin Pratt, a national beer judge; Jason Hendrick, a representative of Chefs’ Warehouse; and Thomas Welsh, bar manager of Barrelhouse 101 in Ventura, where the contest was held.

Each of the brews from the competition were also made available for tasting at the 28th Annual Casa Pacifica Angels Wine, Food & Brew Festival, which was hosted Sept. 26 at California State University – Channel Islands.

Casa Pacifica, based in Camarillo, offers adolescent and family services designed to treat victims of abuse and neglect, substance abuse, homelessness and other behavioral and mental health issues. Its offices in Camarillo, Santa Barbara, and Santa Maria work with more than 2,100 children and their families annually.
