California State University – Channel Islands offered for the first time this fall a Master of Science in Nursing degree, the Camarillo college said Wednesday.The master’s program is the only option for students within Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties to obtain an MSN degree, or Post-Master’s certificate.CSUCI offers two concentrations – nurse educator and family nurse practitioner – with eight-week online sessions; some portions of the program still require hands-on learning, the university added.“CSUCI’s nursing program is ranked 11th best in California out of 126 nursing schools,” Elizabeth Say, interim provost, said in a statement. “The MSN program will build upon this commitment to providing the best in nursing education.”Say added that the program addresses the needs of our region’s workforce. Employment in the health care field is projected to grow by 15 percent from 2019 to 2029, adding 2.4 million jobs according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.The new program welcomed 31 graduate students in the fall.
