Operation Gratitude, a nonprofit which provides care packages and support for military service members and first responders, announced late last month that Major General James Johnson, U.S. Air Force (ret.) has been named as the organization’s chief executive.Effective Aug. 23, Johnson will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Chatsworth organization and work with the nonprofit’s board to develop and implement a strategic plan to provide opportunities for all people to express their appreciation to those who serve, and to expand volunteerism nationwide.Johnson is currently serving in the Department of Defense as an expert for the Secretary of Defense-chartered Independent Review Commission on Sexual Assault in the Military. He also serves on the board for The Flag and General Officer Network, a nonprofit veteran corporation of admirals and general officers, dedicated to personal and professional growth and service to the nation.“I am truly inspired by Operation Gratitude and humbly appreciate the board’s confidence and desire for me to lead this wonderful organization as the CEO,” Johnson said in a statement. “I look forward to standing side by side with our volunteers, donors and staff to ensure all Americans have an opportunity to say ‘Thank You’ to those who have signed a contract with America to go wherever we need them to go and pay whatever price is necessary to ensure our security, safety and way of life.” Johnson served more than 30 years in the military with assignments including commander of Pope Air Force Base in North Carolina, the Africa Command director of logistics and as commander of the Air Force Recruiting Service.
