Car Promoter Hits Road to National Parks

As president of Kahn Media in Moorpark, Dan Kahn promotes automotive brands. But when not driving product awareness, he’s behind the wheel of his motorhome driving the family to visit the National Park system. The Kahns take about 14 camping trips a year; after visiting nearby Sequoia, Yosemite and Joshua Tree, they headed east to Utah, Colorado and even Glacier National Park in northern Montana. “It became this thing – we love National Parks,” Kahn said. “In 20 years, if we can partially retire, we can get to Alaska and spend six months a year on the road.” Kahn’s eventual goal is to visit every National Park in the country. … At the Valley Industry & Commerce Association’s Business Hall of Fame induction ceremony at the Sheraton Universal Hotel, one of the presenters inadvertently called State Sen. Robert Hertzberg “Bill” instead of Bob. Subsequent speakers made it a running gag. Inductee Fred Gaines of Gaines & Stacey in Encino referred to Bill during his acceptance speech, and Master of Ceremonies Fritz Coleman also discussed Bill. For a rundown and photos of VICA’s event, see the story on page 30. … After a hard day litigating, Morgan Halford spends her evening with mosaics. The business and civil litigation attorney at the Law Firm of Carlson & Cohen LLP in Encino displayed her handiwork at an exhibition organized by the San Fernando Valley Bar Association on June 10. Halford developed a self-confessed mosaic obsession about two years ago after taking a class in Ojai. “I couldn’t stop thinking about it,” she recalled. Since then, she has installed bookshelves in an extra room to hold clear plastic jars containing mosaic tiles of different colors, and she works on her creations nearly every night. “I have to actually remind myself to go to bed so I can get up the next morning and be an attorney,” she told Valley Insider. “Playing with color is relaxing and enjoyable. It’s getting into that zone where you enjoy what you’re doing.” She calls her mosaics a “counterbalance” to work in the courtroom. At the Bar Association gallery, she exhibited an untitled circular piece showing a wave fashioned with blue and white beads and surrounded by blue tiles.
