Capstone Green Energy Corp. has sold two microturbines to an Austrian company that are the first in Europe to use hydrogen.
The two microturbines made by the Van Nuys manufacturer will be installed in October at a company named Innovametall Stahl- und Metallbau GmbH in the southern Austrian town of Linz.The microturbines will run on a fuel mixture of 10 percent hydrogen and 90 percent natural gas. The hydrogen will be made from power supplied by solar panels on the roof of the company’s building. The exhaust from the turbines will be captured and used in the facility's powder coating furnace.The contract for the two microturbines was secured by Capstone’s distributor in Austria and Germany, the company said in a release.Darren Jamison, chief executive of Capstone, said that as the world takes more aggressive steps to address climate change, products like the Capstone renewable hydrogen-based system will become commonplace.“We are thrilled to offer a renewable hydrogen-based solution to meet the clean energy goals of today’s progressive businesses,” Jamison said in a statement.
Shares in Capstone (CGRN) closed unchanged at $4.51 on the Nasdaq, on a day when that market closed down 1.1 percent.
