Applebee’s Strikes Exclusive Beverage Deal with PepsiCo

Applebee’s Neighborhood Bar and Grill announced on Monday a new partnership with PepsiCo to serve an exclusive Mountain Dew flavor to customers of the Glendale-based restaurant chain.

“We are absolutely thrilled to bring Mtn Dew Dark Berry Bash exclusively into our restaurants and treat everyone to a new, one-of-a-kind Dew flavor,” Patrick Kirk, vice president of beverage innovation at Applebee’s, said in a statement. “A deep blue carbonated drink with dark berry flavors – yeah, it tastes like you’re surfing cosmic waves.”

The new soda will be available at 1,500 Applebee’s locations nationwide beginning this week, ahead of National Cheeseburger Day on Sept. 18, where guests can try the exclusive flavor alongside handcrafted burgers. A 30-ounce Mtn Dew Dark Berry Bash or other soft drink, paired with a burger and fries, will cost $9.99 during the weekend debut.

Shares of Dine Brands (DIN), the Glendale-based parent of Applebee’s, closed Tuesday down $1.75, or 2.18 percent, to $78.36 on the Nasdaq, a market that closed down a fraction of a percent.
