Cylinder head cracks in aircraft piston engines are behind a recall by Teledyne Continental Motors Inc. The cracks have been found in 36 cylinders on engines exceeding 400 hours of use but as a precautionary measure the company will replace 9,600 cylinders. The recall and replacement will cost $18 million to Teledyne Continental Motors, a subsidiary of Thousand Oaks-based Teledyne Technologies Inc. Pistons affected by the recall were cast and shipped since November 2007. Mark R. Madler
