Stations have been slow to comply with new state regulation

Dozens of Ventura County service station operators could be fined or forced out of business starting next month for failing to install mandatory but costly fueling system upgrades designed to reduce air pollution. The California Air Resources Board ordered installation statewide of the enhanced vapor recovery systems that cost $50,000, $80,000 or more, depending on how many gas pumps a station has, and companion in-station diagnostic equipment in two phases, beginning April 1.
