Two San Fernando Valley hospitals received funding from the state for their family practice residency training programs. Glendale Adventist Medical Center and Northridge Hospital Medical Center received $51,615 each from the $2.5 million approved by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. “In order to achieve my goal for high quality, affordable and accessible health care for all Californians, we must have enough trained medical professionals to meet increasing demands,” Schwarzenegger said. “These awards will help ease our growing health care workforce shortage.” The awards are administered through the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development’s Song-Brown program, which was established by the Health Care Workforce Training Act to increase the number of family practice physicians and physician assistants trained to provide needed medical services to the people of California.
