Simi Valley council adopts $56 million budget

The Simi Valley City Council adopted a $56 million budget Monday night, closing a $5 million gap by cutting all employees’ salaries by 2 percent, eliminating several positions and a one-time transfer of $1.7 million from the Workers Compensation fund. City Manager Mike Sedell said this was the toughest budget the city has had to balance since 1975, and on top of cutting about $3 million earlier this year, all fiscal year 2009-10 expenditures affected employees and services.
