Despite increased production and strong sales in a weak global economy, Capstone Turbine Corp. widened its net loss in the third quarter. The Chatsworth-based company reported a net loss of $10 million, or $0.06 per diluted share, on revenues of $11.5 million for the quarter ending Dec. 31. For the same period in 2007, Capstone had a net loss of $7.7 million, or $0.05 per diluted share, on revenues of $9.2 million. Capstone ended the quarter with a backlog of $57 million and with new orders valued at $14 million. Research and development costs went up $300,000 for the quarter due to increased spending for supplies, labor, consulting and facility costs. For the nine month period Capstone had a net loss of $29.8 million, or $0.18 per diluted share, on revenue of $32.1 million. For the same period in 2007, the company had a net loss of $26.5 million, or $0.18 per diluted share, on revenues of $22 million. Mark R. Madler
