Shirley Bowens, a former employee in the Office of International Programs at California State University, Northridge, is under criminal investigation regarding alleged financial improprieties involving international students. Bowens was placed on administrative leave last summer during a preliminary investigation of past financial practices in the Office of International Programs. She later resigned and retired from CSUN. On Dec. 2, CSUN announced that a more in depth investigation is now underway, the findings of which are confidential because criminal charges may be filed. Based on CSUN’s preliminary findings, however, new internal business processes in the Office of International Programs have already been implemented.
