Westlake Village-based Dole Fresh Fruit Co. is recalling some of its cantaloupes after a grower in South America tested positive for salmonella. The company said a random test earlier this month found that cantaloupes packed on Jan. 25-27 by an independent, third-party grower in Costa Rica had the salmonella. By that time, an estimated 6,104 cartons of the fruit had been distributed to wholesalers in the eastern United States and Quebec. Last year, E. coli was found in a package of Dole baby spinach, setting off a massive recall of that product.
