Cal City residents voice concerns about proposed solar power plant

CALIFORNIA CITY – Many residents support a proposed $1 billion, 250-megawatt solar power plant north of California City, but they also are concerned about the facility’s impact on local groundwater resources, members of the state Energy Commission learned Wednesday . The commission held an informational hearing in California City, the first of many public events to come over the next year as the plant’s application is processed. Beacon Solar LLC, a subsidiary of FPL Energy LLC, has applied to the state to construct and operate the solar plant on some 2,000 acres of land off State Route 14 about four miles north-northwest of California City and west of Cantil.
