U.S. News and World Report has named skilled nursing facility Providence St. Elizabeth Care Center as the top-rated care program in the San Fernando Valley, garnering five stars in a recent feature listing the nation’s top nursing homes. The magazine’s rankings were based on U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid surveys that found Providence St. Elizabeth in North Hollywood among the best care homes in the nation based on health inspections, nurse staffing and quality measures. “Our staff really cares. That makes all the difference,” said Neil Silverstein, administrator of Providence St. Elizabeth. “They’ve been working here a long time—some of them have been here more than 25 years. They feel just as I do that St. Elizabeth is a special place.” U.S. News ranked 15,500 care and rehabilitation centers. Providence St. Elizabeth received the highest ranking among Valley care centers and nationwide was among 1,855 five-star rated care centers, placing it well within the top 10 percent. Silverstein credited his staff of about 50 with earning the award. “They never forget that each of the residents was a vital person with a home, perhaps a job and a family,” Silverstein said. “Preserving dignity is a top priority, and providing care as if each resident is a member of your family is a very important part of what we do.” Thom Senzee
