Santa Clarita Reports Annual Film Growth

The city of Santa Clarita recorded for a fifth year in a row more than 500 film permits for on-location filming within its borders. During the 2017-2018 fiscal year that ended June 30, the city issued 560 film permits, an increase of 2.8 percent from the prior fiscal year. Those permits represent 1,377 film days, or an increase of 8.9 percent. The numbers do not include filming on certified soundstages, which do not require a city permit. Santa Clarita Mayor Laurene Weste said she was pleased that the city continues to be a top choice for on-location filming. “Being a film-friendly community continues to be a priority for our City Council and we will continue to do everything we can to keep the cameras rolling in ‘Hollywood North’ to ensure our unique and beautiful valley remains a preferred place for production,” Weste said in a statement. Television production made up more than half of the on-location film days. Some of the shows based in the city include “Santa Clarita Diet,” “Westworld,” and “MythBusters.” Feature films shooting on-location in the city include “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle,” “12 Strong” and “The 15:17 to Paris.”
