Blue Microphones Wins Emmy

Blue Microphones won an Emmy award for its Mix-Fi studio headphones, the first time any set of headphones has received that honor. The Westlake Village manufacturer of microphones and headphones was one of five companies receiving an engineering Emmy award Wednesday night at a ceremony at the JW Marriott Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. The engineering award is presented “to an individual, company or organization for engineering developments that considerably improve existing methods, or innovations that materially affect the transmission, recording or reception of television,” according to the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences website. The Mix-Fi headphones are used by re-recording and production mixers, supervising sound editors, sound designers, musicians and music editors for their performance and accuracy. They retail for $299. Blue Microphones Chief Executive John Maier said the company is honored to have created the first headphones to win an Emmy. “It’s always been our goal at Blue to create products that push the boundaries of technology and design,” Maier said in a statement. “Winning an Emmy Award highlights the innovation we strive for, and it’s a landmark win for the company.”
