Entertainment technology company Cinedigm Digital Cinema Corp. has signed up the first theater chain outside continental North America for its digital conversion services. Caribbean Cinemas will install Cinedigm-certified screens at the 53 theaters it operates in Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Aruba, St. Lucia, St. Maarten, Antigua, St. Kitts, St. Thomas and Trinidad. The installations will be completed this fall. The Caribbean Cinemas agreement marks the first of what Cinedigm plans to be a continuing worldwide expansion, said Gary Loffredo, Cinedigm’s president of digital cinema services. “We are thrilled to bring digital cinema to Caribbean Cinemas and we are certain that all their constituents, from employees to customers, will immediately enjoy its many benefits,” Loffredo said in a statement. Cinedigm assists small- and medium-sized theater chains to switch to digital projection equipment through a fee paid by six Hollywood studios that subsidize purchasing the equipment.
