Sun Valley Movie Studio Wins Court Approval

Production rental company Line 204 won approval from the 2nd District Court of Appeals to break ground on the largest movie studio complex to be built in Los Angeles in nearly three decades. The 240,000-square-foot facility will now break ground in September with a projected fall 2019 completion date. “We’re excited to bring the most top-of-the line studio complex that the entertainment industry has ever seen to Los Angeles,” Line 204 Chief Executive CEO Alton Butler said in a statement. “Line 204 looks forward to welcoming more television and motion picture projects and keeping production jobs in Los Angeles.” Line 204 has acquired Bastien and Associates Inc. to build the two-building complex on 10 acres of Sun Valley land. The project’s court approval arrives three years after Los Angeles Planning Commission and Planning and Land Use Management Committee approved Butler’s vision, which invited a lawsuit from local residents. In February 2015, the film and television production and rental company first announced its plans to build its complex at 11038, 11070 and 11100 W. Peoria St. When the project went before the Los Angeles Planning Commission in April, Shadow Hills residents objected, expressing concerns regarding traffic and the height of a five-story warehouse, despite the fact that the studio will not abut any homes. A judge ruled in favor of the City and Line 204 in November 2016, which led to residents appealing the decision. Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Richard L. Fruin Jr. heard the appeal in February and now has filed in favor of the project.
