Clothing and footwear company Cherokee Global Brands, based in Sherman Oaks, announced last week the appointment of current director Evan Hengel as chairman of the board of directors. “Evan’s extensive business and financial experience, including with M&A and restructuring in the apparel and consumer products spaces, has already brought significant contributions to our board,” said Cherokee Chief Executive Henry Stupp in a statement. Hengel boasts over a decade of advisory experience in finance and transactional operations and has been a managing director at the Berkeley Research Group since 2017. He has served on Cherokee’s board since October 2018. “It is a great honor to be named chairman, and I am excited to continue to help guide the company on its path to becoming a more diversified and modern platform to augment brand value and, in turn, shareholder value,” Hengel said in a statement. Cherokee manages a portfolio of fashion and lifestyle brands including Cherokee, Tony Hawk Signature Apparel, Liz Lange and others. Shares of Cherokee (CHKE) closed Thursday down a fraction of a percent to 60 cents on the Nasdaq.
