Anheuser-Busch to Invest in Van Nuys Brewery

Anheuser-Busch is investing $10 million at its Van Nuys brewery to improve water efficiency in the filtering, brewing and packaging operations. The investment by the St. Louis beverage company, the U.S. arm of Anheuser-Busch InBev, in Belgium, is part of a larger $2 billion the company plans to spend on its U.S. operations by 2020. The company’s two main brands are Budweiser and Bud Light. In addition to improving water efficiency and reduce the amount of water used at the brewery, the money will go toward supporting a 1 megawatt solar power system installed last year, to replace aging pipes and improve traffic flow into and out of the brewery property at Roscoe Boulevard and Haskell Avenue. Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said he was pleased to see the private sector stepping up to create a more sustainable city. “Anheuser-Busch’s investments in innovative water- and energy-saving technology show a strong commitment to sustainability, local job creation and a prosperous future for our city,” Garcetti said in a prepared statement. Two years ago, Anheuser-Busch announced it would invest $20 million to improve water efficiency at the Van Nuys plant, including adding new meters to better measure water use and to further reduce the amount of water used during the beer packaging process, including the water used to rinse out cans before they are filled with beer.
