Avery Dennison Corp. has appointed Mark Barrenechea to its board, the company announced Monday. Barrenechea, 53, is chief executive of OpenText Corp., which makes enterprise information management software. OpenText had revenues of $2.8 billion in fiscal 2018. Dean Scarborough, chairman of Avery Dennison, a label and packaging material manufacturer headquartered in Glendale, said Barrenechea’s expertise would help the company as it develops its intelligent label business. Intelligent or “smart” labels have radio frequency identification technology that enables companies to communicate with consumers or distribution partners. “Mark is a technology leader who has deep knowledge and expertise in information management strategies,” Scarborough said in a statement. Shares of Avery Dennison (AVY) closed Monday up 49 cents, or a fraction of a percent, to $105.87 on the New York Stock Exchange.
