St. Jude Launches New Spinal Stimulation System

St. Jude Medical Inc. announced on Monday the European launch of its Proclaim Elite Spinal Cord Stimulation System. The system, the first of its kind, provides traditional spinal cord stimulation as well as burst stimulation to treat chronic pain. The upgradeable, non-rechargeable system was largely designed by the St. Paul, Minn. medical device company that has a large operation in Sylmar, “We developed the Proclaim Elite SCS System to create a more patient-centric spinal cord stimulation therapy option,” Dr. Allen Burton, medical director of neuromodulation and vice president of medical affairs at St. Jude Medical, said in a statement. “The Proclaim Elite SCS System offers patients a combination of advanced pain therapy options and the convenience of a device that doesn’t require recharging, while removing barriers for future therapy and diagnostic options.” The system incorporates Bluetooth and Apple technology to help clinicians monitor and manage pain. St. Jude Medical shares closed down 56 cents or less than a percent to $63.10 on the New York Stock Exchange.
