Cerner Corp., a Kansas City, Mo.-based IT company for health care organizations, plans to terminate 217 employees at sites in Simi Valley and Glendale as a result of ending its business relationship with Adventist Health in November. Those affected work at Adventist Health Simi Valley, 57 employees, and Adventist Health Glendale, 160 employees. Employees will be terminated as of Dec. 1, Cerner said in a notice to the California Employment Development Department. There are no bumping rights as employees are not represented by a union, but those affected have the opportunity to accept “comparable employment” with Adventist Health or another organization by Nov. 4. “As part of a joint strategic business decision between the two parties, revenue cycle operations are transitioning from Cerner RevWorks to Adventist Health,” Cerner said in a statement. “All Cerner RevWorks associates supporting Adventist Health will be offered employment. Cerner will continue to provide Adventist Health with its electronic health record and integrated revenue cycle solution.” Most Cerner employees affected by the change were patient access representatives at both locations and medical coders in Glendale.
