Valley Kaiser Permanente Staff to Appear in Rose Parade TV Segment

Staff from Valley facilities of Kaiser Permanente will participate in the health care organization’s 90-second video for “The Rose Parade’s New Year Celebration presented by Honda” on New Year’s Day.The Pasadena Tournament of Roses will not hold a parade this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. Instead, it will air a two-hour special on television, according to the nonprofit.Kaiser Permanente, which has produced a float in the parade for 15 years, will provide a video segment with the theme “honoring health care heroes and a healthy, thriving world” that will feature testimonials from doctors, nurses and other employees.Dr. Danielle Flowers, physician in charge at Kaiser’s Mission Hills Clinic; Dr. Elizabeth Hudson, head of infectious disease at the Panorama City Medical Center; and Ebony Talley, director of infection prevention at the Woodland Hills Medical Center, will appear on screen.“There is light at the end of the tunnel, and there is another side of this,” Talley said. “We really haven’t had a moment’s rest since this started.”Flowers, a pediatrician, said: “You can barely see your doctor’s eyes behind all of the stuff we were wearing, so it is really hard to connect with the kids and make an already scary experience a comfortable one.

… We’ve had to say things like, ‘I’m smiling at you with my eyes.”Hudson said she has seen “whole families” die in the pandemic, which broke her heart. “This is all about caring for your fellow human being and showing the Martin Luther King kind of love – a real love for people,” she explained. The show will air Friday in the Los Angeles media market via six broadcasters: Univision, ABC, Hallmark Channel, KTLA, NBC and RFD TV.
