The chief executive of Tenet Healthcare’s Northeast Region, Erik Wexler, has been appointed as Providence Health and Services’ senior vice president and chief executive of its Southern California region. In his new position, starting May 2, Wexler will be in charge of an area that comprises six hospitals — including Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank and Providence Tarzana Medical Center — as well as multiple outpatient centers and programs, two physician groups and Providence High School in Burbank. The Catholic nonprofit’s SoCal region has approximately 13,000 employees and more than 4,000 physicians. In addition, Wexler will work in collaboration with St. Joseph Health of Orange County as the two organizations aim to create a combined entity sometime in the future. “I am truly delighted and honored to join Providence Southern California,” he said in a prepared statement. “Everyone I have met with (at) Providence — from caregivers and leaders to physicians and directors — has demonstrated extraordinary commitment to delivering the very best in health and wellness, especially to the poor and vulnerable.”
