City of Hope Mission Hills staff were among 170 City of Hope workers to join SEIU-United Healthcare Workers West, according to a statement from the union on Monday. The clinics specialize in cancer treatment and research centers for oncology. City of Hope’s 14 clinics are located in Los Angeles, Ventura, Orange, Riverside and San Bernadino counties. Those eligible to join the union span 18 job classifications, including licensed vocational nurses, medical assistants, phlebotomists, radiology technicians, nuclear medical technicians, surgery technicians, radiation therapists, receptionists, medical records and billing clerks, coders and schedulers. Roughly 144 City of Hope Medical Foundation workers voted to join the union earlier this year, according to SEIU, bringing the total to 857 employees at the company who are members of the union.
