Amgen Foundation on Tuesday announced a $2 million contribution to more than a dozen organizations in Los Angeles and Ventura counties to help vulnerable populations impacted by COVID-19. The foundation’s commitment is part of Thousand Oaks biotech Amgen Inc.’s $12.5 million pledge to support pandemic relief efforts in local communities. The organization also said it will match donations made by Amgen staff around the globe. “In wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is more important than ever for the business community to work arm-in-arm with our local partners who are providing mission critical services and support to individuals who have been devastatingly impacted,” Judy Brown, vice president of corporate affairs and Thousand Oaks site head for Amgen, said in a statement. “I’m proud the Amgen Foundation is able to support those organizations at the center of these relief efforts.” Senior Concerns, a Thousand Oaks nonprofit with a local chapter of Meals on Wheels, an adult day care and pharmacy pick-up service, will receive $100,000 of the $2 million, the foundation said in a statement. Other organizations awarded disaster relief grants include: Ventura County Rapid Response Fund; Caregivers Volunteers Assisting the Elderly; Westminster Free Clinic; Conejo Free Clinic and Simi Valley Free Clinic; Food Share; Interface 2-1-1; United Way of Ventura County; Ventura County Community Foundation; Channel Islands YMCA; LA Mayor’s Fund; LA County Office of Education/Greater LA Education Foundation; LA Promise Fund; St. Vincent Meals on Wheels; St. Barnabas Senior Services; Childcare Alliance of Los Angeles; and Los Angeles Regional Foodbank.
