Dole Food Company, Inc.’s nutrition handbook received the Living Now Book Award for its promotion of healthier living, the Westlake Village company announced. Doles’ book, “Dole Nutrition Handbook: What You Need to Eat and How to Live for a Longer, Healthier Life,” received the award from the Jenkins Group, according to a statement from Dole. The group, which offers the award each year on Earth Day, gave the company the gold medal award, the top honor in the competition’s Nutrition & Diet category, the statement said. The book contains nutrition information, interviews with nutrition experts and a two-week diet and health plan. “This colorful, upbeat guide to utilizing fresh fruit and vegetables is packed with comprehensive nutrition information steeped in research – but it also manages to be accessible to the man on the street,” said Jim Barnes, managing editor and awards director of the Living Now Book awards. Dole’s eco-friendly initiatives include using biodiesels, waste reduction programs, reforestation projects and a growing line of organic produce, the statement said.
