Illinois biotech Baxalta announced Tuesday that the company will lay off approximately 239 employees, starting with 100 at its Thousand Oaks office, according to the Pacific Coast Business Times. The layoffs will take place May 1, and an additional 130 employees will also be let go from Baxalta’s L.A. and Van Nuys offices. Currently, the company has more than 1,200 employees in Thousand Oaks and almost 3,000 in total. Its Thousand Oaks location is at 1700 Rancho Conejo Blvd. Drug maker Baxter International spunoff Baxalta in July, and six months later, Dublin-based biopharmaceutical company Shire bought it for $32 billion. Baxalta said the layoffs are not related to the merger.
