Amgen Inc. is opening a 136,000-square-foot facility in Tampa, Fla., the Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corp. announced Wednesday. The new capability center will begin operations in October and should add 450 jobs to the area by the end of 2018. Amgen will invest $25 million into the project, according to news reports. “Amgen is proud to be establishing our new, state-of-the-art capability center in Tampa,” Chief Financial Officer David Meline said in a statement. “We are a company driven by a single mission – to serve patients – and the services and activities that will happen at the center are central to enabling this.” The Thousand Oaks biotech will occupy four floors of the office building Corporate Center One, located at 2202 N. Westshore Blvd. and will use the space primarily for administrative purposes. Recently, Tampa has seen growth in the biotech sector. Johnson & Johnson Inc. moved in last year and Bristol-Myers Squibb opened its location in 2014.
