Santa Clarita will witness professional cyclists dash across the finish line this May as the city will host the completion of the fourth stage in the men’s race of the 2017 Amgen Tour of California. Sponsored by biotechnology firm Amgen Inc. in Thousand Oaks, the weeklong men’s race will stretch over 575 miles through 12 host cities, from Sacramento to Pasadena. Stage four on May 17 will begin in Santa Barbara and travel more than 100 miles to end in Santa Clarita. “We are thrilled to once again be hosting this world-class event in Santa Clarita,” Mayor Cameron Smyth said in a statement. “We’re ecstatic that folks around the world watching this event will see our city.” This year will mark the first time the race has been designated with UCI World Tour status, the only stage race in North America to be classified as such.
