Avita Opens Clinic in Tehran

Avita Medical Ltd. is opening a dedicated clinic for its regenerative skin treatments in Iran, the company announced Wednesday. The Northridge medical company’s ReCell is used to treat burns, wounds and skin defects by taking a small sample of a patient’s skin to quickly regenerate more skin to apply to the affected area. The clinic, located in Iran’s capital of Tehran, would initially treat patients for re-pigmentation and scar reconstruction. The planned site is part of a distribution contract with Iranian company Teb Sanaat Lotus, which will distribute Avita’s products through its partner company Zikad International Aesthetics Supplier. “Using a dedicated clinic is a new approach for Avita, and we believe it will give us real focus to reach this important market,” Chief Executive Adam Kelliher said in a statement. Every year, about 16 million people in Iran receive aesthetic procedures, making the country the second largest market in the Middle East and 10th in the world. Avita Medical shares closed down 8 cents, or 5 percent, to $1.43 on the over-the-counter market.
