Zest AI Appoints Investment Veteran to Board

Aditi Maliwal, a partner at Upfront Ventures, has joined the board of directors of fintech company Zest AI.

Maliwal will bring to the Burbank company years of experience in investment and technology, including a position at Google.

She will replace Michael Carney, the current board member representing Upfront Ventures, a Santa Monica-based technology startup investment firm.

“Zest’s focus on transparency and equitable decision making is very aligned with my personal and professional missions,” Maliwal said in a statement. “This is an all-star team, led by (Chief Executive) Mike (de Vere) with laser focus building a necessary solution in the financial services ecosystem today.”

Zest AI couldn’t be more humbled and excited to have Maliwal join the board, de Vere said.

“Her extraordinary expertise in the fintech field will be a catalyst for us to deepen the level of service Zest AI can offer to our customers,” he said in a statement.

Prior to joining Upfront, Maliwal was a product manager on the Next Billion Users team at Google, leading investments in and building products for companies in emerging markets. Before that, she worked on Google’s corporate development team and led acquisitions across sectors including AI, messaging, and media, according to a blog post at Zest AI’s website.

She also worked at Crosslink Capital, a San Francisco private equity firm, where she was involved in investing in Power to Fly, a New York City online hiring platform; Chime Financial Inc., an online company in San Francisco that partners with regional banks to deliver financial products to consumers; and Better Up, a firm also in San Francisco that provides coaching for employees, the posting said.
