Warner Bros. Expands Burbank Headquarters

Warner Bros. has expanded its Burbank headquarters with a new 800,000-square-foot expansion called Second Century. Its completion was announced this week.

Second Century sits in the Burbank Studios lot, next to the Warner Bros. main lot in the Burbank Media District. The project, which was named in recognition of Warner Bros.’s upcoming centennial anniversary, consists of two office buildings that are designed to look like staggered blocks. It will house about 4,500 Warner Bros. employees.

The buildings were designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry with the team at his Playa Vista-based firm, Gehry Partners. Worthe Real Estate Group developed the project and building was carried out by its construction company, Krismar Construction, both of which are based in Santa Monica.

“We are thrilled to have completed the Warner Bros. Second Century expansion, a project that will have significant presence in the Burbank Media District and the surrounding community,” Worthe President Jeff Worthe said in a statement. “This project represents our continued commitment to creating high-quality, innovative real estate developments.”

Frank Gehry is known for designs such as the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the California Aerospace Museum at the California Science Center, the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium and the Museum of Pop Culture in Seattle.

“It has been my great pleasure to bring this project to life with my client and collaborator Jeff Worthe,” Gehry said in a statement. “It doesn’t take more time or more money to make good architecture, but it does take a careful, thoughtful and intensely involved client.”

Worth Real Estate Group collaborated with Stockbridge Real Estate Fund on the project. It is Worthe’s thirteenth building in the Burbank area.

“From the start, we were interested in making office space that felt more special to be in than the typical office buildings – taller ceilings, more natural light,” Gehry said. “I hope that the folks who work here will feel the love and talent that my team poured into the project.”
