A subsidiary of Teledyne Technologies Inc. has been awarded a contract valued at $597 million to support operations of the International Space Station.
Teledyne Brown Engineering Inc., based in Huntsville, Alabama, received the Marshall Operations, Systems, Services and Integration II (MOSSI II) contract this week. Teledyne Brown is a part of Teledyne Technologies, the Thousand Oaks aerospace, marine and digital imaging products manufacturer.
Teledyne Brown is the incumbent on the Mission Operations and Integration portion of this contract and has been performing similar work to support this effort for over 20 years. The work will be performed at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, and Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, according to a release from the company.
MOSSI II is a performance-based, cost-plus-award-fee contract that has a potential mission services value of $597 million and a maximum potential indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity value of $85 million over eight years, the release said.
Robert Mehrabian, chief executive of Teledyne, said that he wished to thank NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center for its continued confidence in Teledyne Brown and its capabilities.
“I also appreciate the dedication of our Teledyne Brown employees who developed the winning MOSSI II proposal under the leadership of former president Janice L. Hess and current president Scott Hall,” Mehrabian said in a statement. “Scott’s continued leadership and guidance positions us well with performance under the MOSSI II contract.”
MOSSI II is a combination of the current MO&I and Huntsville Operations Support Center contracts. It consists of all phases of ISS operations including mission preparation, crew and flight controller training and real-time spaceflight operations, as well as maintaining support infrastructure, according to the Teledyne release.
Shares in Teledyne (TDY) closed up $7.58, or about 2 percent, to $387.65 on the New York Stock Exchange, on a day when the Dow Jones closed up at nearly 1.2 percent.
