Planning Commission Affirms Studio City Apartment Project

The Los Angeles City Planning Commission unanimously rejected a pair of appeals from neighborhood residents seeking to block the construction of a 54-unit mixed-use building in Studio City.

The Los Angeles City Planning Commission unanimously rejected a pair of appeals from neighborhood residents seeking to block the construction of a 54-unit mixed-use building in Studio City.

The project, proposed for the southwest corner of Radford Avenue and Hoffman Street by developer Rafi Kuyumjian, would raze a vacant auto repair garage to pave the way for Radford Place, a six-story apartment complex with nearly 3,400 square feet of ground-floor retail and restaurants. Designed by Sam Aslanian, the complex, which would be comprised of studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, would also include a 77-vehicle underground and ground-level garage.

Groups of residents filed appeals that declared the project as a nuisance that should never have qualified for Transit Oriented Community incentives, which would allow greater height and less open space than permitted by zoning in exchange for six apartments set aside as affordable housing.

The Planning Commission ruled against the appellants and upheld the recommended entitlements issued earlier this year.

The complex — to also include amenities such as a central courtyard, patio decks and a recreation room — will rise across from the 55-acre CBS Radford Studio Center which Hackman Capital Partners and Square Mile Capital purchased for $1.8 billion last November.
