Michele Starkey has been named Woodbury University’s senior vice president of academic affairs, where she will oversee the university’s academic and student affairs.
Starkey previously spent 25 years at Mount Saint Mary’s University in Los Angeles, where she held multiple positions of seniority such as a tenured faculty member, department chair and associate provost and accreditation liaison officer. The university ranked No. 2 in the country in social mobility under her leadership.
“We are thrilled to have such a distinguished and accomplished academic leader join our team,” David Steele-Figueredo, Woodbury’s president, said in a statement “Michele is not only a perfect fit for Woodbury because of her academic achievements, but also — perhaps more so — because of her tireless dedication to diversity and inclusion, STEM education and online teaching innovations.”
Woodbury is a private nonprofit university in Burbank with colleges of business, liberal arts, architecture and media and design.
Starkey holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Mount Saint Mary’s, a master’s in mathematics from California State University – Long Beach, and a doctoral degree in educational leadership from California State University – Long Beach.
