Studio City Has Secrets To Share

The gossip in Studio City, where most residents have historically worked in the entertainment industry, has created a book that’s sure to make interesting water cooler conversation. “Studio City: A Mile of Style,” by a former Chamber of Commerce president, is an historical reference that’s not above relating stories about its colorful characters. Take legendary TV host Bob Eubanks. Many may not remember he once owned Studio City club The Cinnamon Cinder. They might not also know that in 1964 when “The Beatles” came to town for a gig at the Hollywood Bowl, he invited the Liverpool Fab Four to his club for a secret press conference. But word spread and 400 screaming fans mobbed the establishment, including a 15-year-old girl who flung herself at the band’s limousine. “All these little bizarre things started to connect and I started to realize that if I was very careful in how I pieced the information I could put together a pretty entertaining story and all of it true,” said author and attorney Joann Deutch, who served on the chamber’s board from 1990 to 2005. As president for a term last decade, she did research on Studio City to write an historical blurb in the chamber’s business directory and develop a marketing plan to promote the community. Deutch is self-publishing the book as an e-reader for $9.99 or as an on-demand paperback for $29.95, both exclusively sold on the Amazon website. “My vision for the book is to raise Studio City’s visibility and presence in Los Angeles as a place that’s really quite different and quite different for a reason,” she said. – Megan Diskin
