VICA Raises $20,000 for New Committee

The Valley Industry & Commerce Association collected $20,000 for its new San Fernando Valley Leadership Political Action Committee through a fundraiser reception, the Sherman Oaks-based group announced. The initial fundraising event was hosted by Vons and was held at the Van Nuys home of VICA president Stuart Waldman on Sept. 15. “I think it was a great first start,” Waldman said. “We were able to raise some money, which is what our goal is – to be able to start the nest egg for being involved in campaigns and elections for pro-business candidates in the future.” While the organization can only take positions on issues, the committee will allow its members to endorse and financially support candidates. Several local officeholders attended the event, including California Controller John Chiang; Assemblymembers Mike Gatto, Cameron Smyth and Tom Torlakson; Los Angeles City Controller Wendy Greuel; Los Angeles City Councilmembers Paul Krekorian and Dennis Zine; and Los Angeles Unified School District School Board Member Tamar Galatzan.
