A Sun Valley metal finishing company was among those receiving a surprise inspection by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency checking on hazardous waste laws violations. Photo Chem Etch Corp. has returned to compliance and paid a $2,000 fine, the EPA said. Other companies receiving inspections were in Los Angeles, Rosemead, Santa Clara, Compton, and South El Monte. The federal Resource Conservation and Recovery Act requires companies to properly manage hazardous waste to prevent harm to human health and the environment. Metal finishers will generate wastes such as acids, sludge containing heavy metals, flammable liquids, and alkaline and acidic corrosive liquids, the EPA said.
