Van Nuys Airport will close for two 24-hour periods in June in order for repair work to be done to the main runway. The closures will take place from 12 p.m. on Saturday, June 4 to 12 p.m., Saturday, June 5; and from the same times on June 11 and 12. The airport met with the major tenants to work out the best times and days for the patching work to be done to minimize impact on air operations, said airport director Jess Romo. There are plans to completely rebuild the runway in the future at a cost of about $20 million, Romo said. “This (June project) will carry us through in the interim until we are able to affect that project,” Romo added.
