The box office success of “Kung Fu Panda 2” contributed to DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc. posting higher net income for the second quarter when compared to a year ago. The animated feature has brought in $600 million in global box office receipts, making it the fifth highest grossing film on a global basis for the year, company officials said. For the quarter ending June 30, DreamWorks Animation reported net income of $34 million, or $0.40 per diluted share, on revenues of $218.3 million. For the same period in 2010, the Glendale-based studio reported net income of $24 million, or $0.27 per diluted share, on revenues of $158 million. “Kung Fu Panda 2” is expected to drive the company’s revenue in the third quarter through international box office, and into the fourth quarter when released for home entertainment.
