Northridge Hospital Adds Family Justice Center

Northridge Hospital Medical Center today opened the Valley Cares Family Justice Center in Van Nuys, which is part of the health care provider’s latest community service project. The center provides services for children and adults who have experienced domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse. The center provides on-site services by civil legal representatives, counselors, members of law enforcement, child social workers, prosecutors and forensic nurse examiners. The center, which is located at 14535 Gault Street, will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The opening of the center is partially due to a $237,500 grant to the Northridge Hospital Foundation secured by Congressman Brad Sherman from the Omnibus Appropriations Act signed by President Obama in 2009, according to the new center’s Web site. Several elected officials spoke at the center’s opening event, including Sherman, Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. Jessica Vernabe
