The State Legislature gave final approval this week for a bill that would help communities outlaw mobile billboards. Assembly Bill 2756, co-authored by Assembly member Bob Blumenfield, was passed by the state Assembly with a 49-19 vote. The governor has until Sept. 30 to act on the legislation. The bill would give local communities the ability to ban the parking of unhitched trailers displaying advertisements on any public street. If passed, it would create penalties for billboard owners who violate the law. “I’m tired of seeing these unsightly billboards on unhitched trailers all over our neighborhoods,” Blumenfield said. “They are nothing more than road spam. I know other people are sick of them too. Literally thousands of people in our community have complained to me about these eyesores.” Assemblyman Mike Feuer, who co-authored the bill, said the signs create safety hazards for drivers and take up scarce parking spaces intended for business patrons. The bill is supported by the city of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office. Both Blumenfield and Feuer represent the San Fernando Valley.
