The City of Lancaster will install solar systems at six sites for one of the largest municipal solar projects in California. Installation sites include City Hall, the city-owned performing arts center and Clear Channel Stadium, home of the JetHawks minor league baseball. The equipment will be financed, owned and maintained by Solar City, based in Foster City, Calif., and Lancaster will pay for the electricity the systems produce. The city is expected to save about $7 million over the next 15 years. “In the long-term, we will produce the vast majority of our energy ourselves, saving a substantial amount of taxpayer money in energy costs,” said Deputy City Manager Jason Caudle. “In the short-term, we will put in place a system which harnesses the power of sustainable solar energy to power our facilities throughout Lancaster.” Mark R.
